MHRA Driver of the Year This award is given annually to the MHRA member who has the greatest racing accomplishments in the awarded season. MHRA was formed as a stock outboard club; therefore stock outboard accomplishments are weighted slightly higher than other categories of “kneel down” outboard racing. However, all MHRA members are eligible to win based on their racing season within any ”kneel down” outboard racing category. The award is decided between members, based on racing accomplishments on the water in the season awarded. |

VanValkenburg Award Awarded annually for lifetime achievement to the betterment of outboard racing. The Van Valkenburg family dedicated the Van Valkenburg award in 1989. The Van Valkenburgs have been involved in racing since 1950 and have previously raced under the Trenton Outboard Racing Club (TORC) and more recently the Michigan Hydroplane Racing Association (MHRA). The Van Valkenburgs created this award to give something back to the sport that means so much to them. The award is given annually to the nominee that has “given the most back to outboard racing”, and is considered a lifetime achievement award. Past winners have been race organizers, directors, referees, inspectors, scorers, and anyone who has gone “above and beyond the call of duty" to give something back to the sport. It is considered the highest club honor given, as evidenced by the exquisite watch that is awarded to the winner. |
